Biography

Bezaleel Wiggins was the son of Benjamin Wiggins and Susan MacPherson, born about 1709. There are various spellings for his first name. It is unknown if his parents were active Quakers at the time of his birth. His father, Benjamin, did give permission for him to marry.

He married Rachel Hayhurst on 1 May 1734.[1] He would have been about 25 at the time of his marriage. The marriage record does not state the parents of either couple. The marriage was recorded by the Middletown Monthly meeting. No further Quaker record is found of either Bezaleel or his wife Rachel after their marriage.

Bezaleel died in 1794.[2] His will was proven on 24 July 1794[3] His wife was not named in the will, and probably predeceased Bezaleel. He named his children in his will: Benjamin, Isaac, Joseph, Elizabeth Eastburn and Mary Hayhurst. His daughter Elizabeth was married to John Eastburn, and his daughter Mary was married to John Hayhurst, the son of Cuthbert Hayhurst. The memorial on FAG states Bezaleel's wife was Mary Wiggins.

With regard to marriage, I don't see how being born in 1709 precludes one from marrying in 1735, at age 26. Currently, I have no sources either way.

Date and place of birth is unsourced. His marriage in 1735 to Rachel Hayhurst makes a 1709 birthdate likely.
