Biography

Aaron was born in 1741/2. He was the son of Jonathan Wight and Sarah Plimpton. He passed away in 1813.

A country doctor of Medway, Massachusetts, Aaron Wight was also a diarist -- in fact, he kept detailed diaries from 1769 until his death, chronicling his medical career, births and deaths in his family, and his purchases of clothing. He also recorded his hobby of clock making (as he completed only 3 clocks a year, it did not become his primary source of income). Many of his entries were adorned with small drawings. In February 1770 he treated Widow Ball for "canser", only to record her death that fall.

After his first wife, Mary Kitttredge, died in 1772 Wight recorded his search for a new wife. In fall 1775 he recorded an "Extrordnery Event": he met his next wife, Jemina (Mima) Rutter. A few days later he recorded an excursion with Jemima, his young daughter Polly, and his sister Thankful, with a drawing of a man and woman holding hands with a dog in the background. He and Jemima Rutter married in January 1776.
