Biography

Martha Wight was the daughter of Rice Wight, of Braboeuf Manor at Artington, and his wife Elizabeth Needler. He was the son of John Wight and Agnes Bray and practised as a lawyer at Guildford in Surrey.

She married an Anglican clergyman, Richard Boyle, and they moved to Cork in Ireland, where they had at least eleven children, including:[1][2]

1. Michael Boyle, Archbishop of Armagh.

2. Colonel Richard Boyle, executed at Drogheda in 1649 by Cromwell's troops.

3. Elizabeth Boyle, married Sir Robert Travers, killed at Knocknoness in 1647, with whom she had a son. Richard Travers, and a daughter, Martha Travers, who was married first to Captain Robert Stannard, who died at Killmallock in 1655 without children, and secondly to Sir Richard Aldworth.

4. Alice Boyle, married to Henry Delaune.

5. Anne Boyle, married to John Davant who died in 1641.

6. Catherine Boyle, married to John Fitzgerald, Dean of Cork.

7. Dorothy Boyle, married first to an army officer named Halse, secondly to Henry Turner, and thirdly to Dr Thomas Roberts.

8. Martha Boyle, married first to Lt.Col. Osbaldeston, secondly to Lt. Col. John Nelson, and thirdly to Sir Matthew Deane

9. Bridget Boyle, married to Colonel John Jephson.
