Per "Peter" Erik (Wiklund) Vickland was born on August 14, 1862 in Borka, Enanger, Gavleborg, Sweden. He was the son of Anders Wiklund and Kristina Lindman. [1] He was Baptized on August 14, 1862. [2] [3]
Between August 1862 and 1870, Per Erik lived with his parents Anders and Kristina, his sisters Margta and Lena Kajsa and his brothers Carl, Jonas and Anders in Borka, Enanger, Gavleborg, Sweden. On May 17, 1864, his mother Kristina gave birth to his sister Anna Stina. In 1866, his sister Margta moved to a different location in Borka, Enanger. On June 29, 1866, his mother gave birth to his sister Brita Greta. In 1867, his brother Carl moved to Prastgarden, Enanger and in 1868 returned home. On November 3, 1867, his mother gave birth to his sister Johanna Maria who passed away on June 28, 1868. On August 9, 1869, his mother gave birth to his brother Lars Fredrik who passed away on May 22, 1870. In 1870, his sister Lena Kajsa moved to Halsange, Enanger. [4]
Between 1871 and 1879, Per Erik lived with his parents Anders and Kristina, his sisters Anna Stina and Brita Greta and his brothers Carl, Jonas and Anders in Borka, Enanger, Gavleborg, Sweden. In 1871, his brother Jonas changed his last name from "Wiklund" to "Sandin". In 1871, his sister Lena Kajsa returned home and in 1872, moved to Oster Finnika, Enanger to work for her uncle Jonas Wiklund. On March 6, 1874, his father Anders passed away. On March 29, 1875, his brother Carl married Kristina Nagel and established a separate home in same location. On October 5, 1879, his brother Jonas married Anna Brita Blomqvist and moved to another location in Borka, Enanger. [5]

The 1902 Topeka, Kansas, City Directory listed Peter as a contractor and living with his sons Andrew, Carl E. and William at 1100 SW Brooks Avenue in Topeka. [14]
In March 1903, Peter was nominated as the member of the Topeka City Council from the Sixth Ward on the Socialist Ticket. [15]
In a March 12, 1903 newspaper article, it was stated "P.E. Vickland, who was nominated for councilman from the Sixth Ward at the Socialist convention held last Saturday, announces that he will retire from the race. He gives as his reason that he does not want to interfere with S.A. Swendson's chances for re-election." [16]
The 1905 Kansas State Census listed Peter as living with his wife Matilda, and his sons Andrew, Carl, William, Arthur F., Edward, Clarence and Theodore M. Vickland in Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas. His occupation was listed as a stone mason. [17]
Peter became a naturalized U.S. citizen on September 26, 1906 in Shawnee, Kansas. [18]
The 1907 Topeka, Kansas, City Directory listed Peter as a stone mason and living with his sons Andrew, Arthur, Carl E. and William at 1100 SW Brooks Avenue in Topeka. [19]
In a February 1907 newspaper article, it was stated "P.E. Vickland, a stone cutter living at 1100 Brooks Avenue, was run into Saturday night by a horse-driven by J.C. Tulloch and was so badly injured that he is confined to the Keith Hospital. Mr. Vickland had been to the Santa Fe depot and was riding a bicycle on his way toward home when the accident occurred. He was turning the corner of Fifth Street and Kansas Avenue as J. C. Tulloch was driving past on Kansas Avenue behind a spirited horse. The animal became frightened at a passing car and lunged into Mr. Vickland. The point of one of the buggy shafts struck him in the breast, breaking his breast bone. He was knocked unconscious for an hour. He was taken to Keith Hospital, where it was found that the breast bone was the only bone broken, but that he had received a number of severe bruises on other parts of his body. He is improving, but it will be some time yet before he will be able to leave the hospital." [20]

In June 1909, Peter was offering for rent a 5-room new house, gas and electric light, 1106 Brooks Avenue. [22]
The 1910 Federal Census listed Peter as living with his wife Matilda, and his sons Carl, William, Arthur F., Edward, Clarence and Theodore M. at 1100 SW Brooks Avenue in Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas. Peter's occupation was listed as stone mason for houses. [23]
The 1912 Topeka City Directory listed Peter as a contractor, P.E. Vickland with the business and residence at 1100 Brooks Avenue in Topeka. [24]
In March 1912, Peter received word that his mother Kristina (Lindman) Wiklund, age 83, had passed away at the home of his sister Mrs. Gust Johnson in Enanger, Sweden. The funeral was held on February 18, 1912. [25]
In a June 12, 1912 newspaper article, it was stated, "P.E. Vickland of 1100 Brooks Avenue, a contractor, and Carl Hvirf, a Salina contractor, left Topeka Sunday for a summer vacation trip to Sweden, where they will attend the olympic games and visit friends and relatives. They sail from New York Saturday on the Olympic." [26]
On June 22, 1912, Peter and Carl Hvrif arrived in Southampton, England aboard the White Star Dominion Line's SS Olympic. [27]
The 1915 Kansas State Census listed Peter as living with his wife Matilda, and his sons Arthur F., Edward, Clarence and Theodore M. at 1100 SW Brooks Avenue in Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas. His occupation was listed as a stone mason. [28]
In a December 9, 1915 newspaper article, it was stated, "Sundry kicks, cursings, assaults and general abuse suffered at the hands of his wife are among the reasons advanced by P.E. Vickland in his petition for divorce from Matilda Vickland which was filed with the clerk of the district court yesterday. Not only did his wife inflict physical punishment upon his person, the stonemason declares, but she spread scandalous stories about him in the community and also refused to prepare lunches for him to eat while at work. He alleges that she grabbed food from his hand which he was preparing for himself. His unhappy relations with his wife, Vickland alleges, occurred during the last summer. He left her July 20 and has not lived with her since, he says. The Vicklands were married at Marysville July 8, 1882, according to the petition. The plantiff asks for divorce, the payment of debts against his property and the division of the remainder of the property equally between himself and wife." [29]
The 1916 Topeka City Directory listed Peter as living with his wife Matilda, and his son Clarence at 1100 SW Brooks Avenue in Topeka. His occupation was listed as a mason. [30]
In a February 27, 1916 newspaper article, it was stated, "A divorce was granted P.E. Vickland against Matilda Vickland by Judge A. W. Dana yesterday. A property division was made." [31]
The 1920 Federal Census listed Peter as living alone at 522 SE Chandler Street in Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas. His occupation was listed as a carpenter with a steam railway. [32]
The 1924 Topeka City Directory listed Peter as living in Topeka Rural Route 27.. [33]
Peter passed away on June 2, 1925 in Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas. He was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas. [34]
