Jeptha was born in Newport, Rhode Island when it was still a British colony.[1] His family were Quakers.
Jeptha married Elizabeth Mosher in 1780 in Washington County, New York.[2] He moved to Milan, New York (in Dutchess County) around 1787.[2] He was a blacksmith in Milan and also owned a grist mill. Elizabeth and Jeptha had 13 children.[3]
Jeptha later went to Avon, New York.[4][5][6][7] He died there on September 1, 1843.[2]
