The only "proof" I've been able to find that Edward married, as his first wife, Mary Hazard, seems to be Austin's Genealogical Dictionary of Rhode Island, followed by Caroline Robinson's Hazard Family. (I should add that there is no evidence for Edward Wilcox's birth date, as given here, as far as I know.) I'm still working on this. But the deposition of Stephen Hull (who married Mary's granddaughter, Martha Morey), made 4 July 1739, as part of a suit by Martha (Hazard) Wilcox against Thomas Hazard in the Court of Common Pleas and appealed to the RI Supreme Court, says that after Mary's death, the following people concerned about the division of her estate were gathered:
Thomas Hazard George Hazard Sarah Watson Stephen Hazard & Stephen Champlin all of South Kingstown
Jeremiah Hazard Martha Wilcox and Jeffery Hazard all of North Kingstown &c
Stephen Wilcox of Charlestown
Thomas Hazard, George Hazard, Sarah Watson, Stephen Hazard, Jeremiah Hazard, and Martha Wilcox were children of Robert and Mary (Brownell) Hazard. Stephen Champlin (1711-1771) was a grandson, the heir of Hannah (Hazard) Champlin (deceased); Jeffery Hazard was also a grandson, the heir of Robert Hazard, Jr. (deceased); and Stephen Wilcox (c.1692-1766) was another grandson, the eldest son and heir of Stephen Wilcox, Jr. by his first wife (name unknown). Mary (Brownell) Hazard, in a deposition made in 1731, named her grandson Robert Wilcox (son of Stephen Wilcox, Jr.) and said that his mother died a "fortnight" after his birth, which was about 1694.
There is no evidence that a daughter of Robert and Mary (Brownell) Hazard married Edward Wilcox. His children are not mentioned in this deposition. Probably Austin confused Stephen Wilcox's son Stephen with Edward's son Stephen. But there is plenty of evidence to show that Stephen Wilcox of Charlestown (in 1739) was the eldest son and heir of Stephen Wilcox, Jr., and the older brother of Robert Willcox of South Kingstown.
Therefore, unless someone can offer better evidence that Austin or the subsequent genealogies, "Mary Hazard" should be deleted.
I agree that Wilcox-60 and Wilcox-560 should be merged, also the three Stephens-4427,5751, and 1034 are the same person although the birth dates and marriage dates need to be researched to determine which is the correct one. I have her birth date as 1677-7-3 and the marriage date as abt 1685, as Mary Wilcox-2551 appears to be the oldest of the children b-1688 I would have to say marriage was probably 1685.
Wilcox-560 and Wilcox-60 appear to represent the same person because: Wilcox 60 has First wife info and Wilcox 580 has the other marriages. Please review and merge. Thankyou.
