Carrie was the name she went by most of her life, but it appears that her given name was Caroline, as that is how it was listed in the 1850 US Census.
Carrie was born in 1847. Carrie moved with her parents to Wisconsin when she was a small child. In about 1858-59, she moved back to Vermont to live with her grandparents, Artemus and Anna Wilcox, as shown in the 1860 US Census. In about 1865, she moved to Michigan to rejoin her parents who had moved there during the time she was in Vermont. She taught school in Michigan until 1868, when she married Wallace McCain.

On Sunday, Mrs. Carrie McCain suffered a severe stroke, that leaves her in a critical condition. Her throat was affected, making swallowing and talking extremely difficult at present. Mrs. McCain is in her eighties and has not been very strong for some time. She is at her grandchildren's home, Mr.
and Mrs. Howard Silverthorn, having gone there a few days together
with her daughter, Mrs. Pugh.

Obituary 28 APR 1933 Cass City, Tuscola, MI, USA •Note: page 1 - Mrs. Carrie McCain, 86, former resident of Deford, died Sunday in the home of her grand-daughter, Mrs. Otto Buckwitz, in Port Huron. Mrs . McCain was born March 12, 1847, in West Pawlet, Vt. She married James W. McCain in 1868 and moved to Deford, where she lived until 1932, when she went to Port Huron to live with Mrs. Buckwitz. She leaves three daughters, Mrs. Leola Pugh, Port Huron; Mrs. Geo. Spencer, Deford; and. Mrs. Carrie Goodrich, Malin, California; two sons, Fred McCain of Oxford, and Wesley McCain of Pontiac; and two brothers, Fred Wilcox of Port Huron and Frank Wilcox of Yale. Funeral services were held at the Deford Methodist church on Tuesday afternoon and burial was made in the Novesta cemetery.
page 8 - Funeral Service-- The funeral service of Mrs. Carrie L. McCain was held in the Deford M. E. church at two o'clock on Tuesday, April 25 , and the body laid to rest in the family lot of Novesta cemetery. Service was conducted by the pastor of the church, W. L. Jones. Carrie L. Wilcox was born March 12, 1847, at West Pawlet, Vermont, and passed away at Port Huron at the house of her daughter, Mrs. Loella Pugh. Her parents moved to Wisconsin while she was still a small child. At the age of twelve years she returned to Vermont to make her home with her grandparents. At the age of eighteen she joined her parents who had moved to Michigan. She taught school until the year 1868, when she was married to Wallace McCain. They were parents of seven children, her husband and two children preceding her in death. Mrs. Chas. Silverthorn died June 24, 1929, and Mrs. Ben. Gage died March 27, 1932. Five children survive: Mrs. Loella Pugh, Port Huron; Wesley of Pontiac ; Fred of Oxford; Mrs. Chandler Goodrich of Malin, Oregon; and Mrs. Geo . Spencer of Deford; also twenty-three grandchildren and twenty-nine great grand-children; two brothers, Fred Wilcox, Port Huron; and Frank Wilcox, Yale. Mr. and Mrs. McCain moved to Deford in March, 1889, where they resided until Mr. McCain died in February 1916. During her earlier life she was a member of the Deford M. E. church and an active figure in church circles. She was also a charter member of Fern Hive of the Maccabees. Friends and relatives were present from Port Huron, Yale, Avoca, Dayton, Ohio, Pontiac, Birmingham, Bad Axe and Marlette.

Th Wilcox reunion was held on Sunday at the park in Yale. Those who attended from here were Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Spencer, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Sherwood and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Silverthorn, and Ben Gage. Mrs. C. L. McCain was the oldest present, being 85 years of age. Sixty-nine were in attendance.

A reunion of the Wilcox family was held on Sunday, August 28, at the community hall near Dryden. One hundred attended and represented 27 families from Gaylord, Deford, Oxford, Pontiac, Detroit, Pt. Huron, Yale and Columbus, Ohio. A program of music and readings followed a pot luck dinner. Mrs. J. W. McCain was the oldest member of the Wilcox family present.
