Biography

Wilma was born on March 9, 1922, the daughter of Harry and Esther (Miller) Wilcox. She graduated in 1940 from Davenport High School as class valedictorian. She married Louie Thornbloom. They later divorced. She married Raymond Schick on November 13, 1971. He preceded her in death on February 22, 2006. Wilma retired from Army Weapons Command in 1977, after 20 years of services as Chief of Administration Branch for Procurement and Production Directorate, Rock Island Arsenal. Additionally, she and Raymond owned and operated Anderson's "Boob's" Restaurant in McCausland for eight years.Wilma was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles; a member of Newcomb Presbyterian Church, where she established the first Girl Scout Troop, and was a member of the choir. She was a published poet, and enjoyed writing parodies. Wilma was an ardent Cubs fan, enjoyed NASCAR, crosswords, and Iowa Hawkeye Basketball. Wilma Juanita Schick, 95, of Davenport, died Saturday, January 27, 2018 in Bettendorf.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Newcomb Presbyterian Church in Davenport. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30th at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Hospice Compassus.

Survivors include her children, Randall (Jacquline) Thornbloom of Davenport, and Cheryl (Bob) Willits of Bettendorf; step-children, Susan Wilson, Kristin Schwien, Sally Vogel, Kathy Tegmeier, Virginia York, Patricia O’Dell, and Diane Krebs; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brother, Lester (Jan) Wilcox of Bettendorf; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Raymond, Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Louie; sisters, Stella, Helen, and Alice; and grandchildren, Sean and Baby Thornbloom.
