Lois Wilcox was born in December 1777 in Middletown, Connecticut, her father, James, was 33, and her mother, Sarah, was 26. She married John A. Bratton and they had 14 children together. She also had four children from another relationship. She died on November 15, 1871, in Whitingham, Vermont, at the impressive age of 93, and was buried there.
