William D. Wilder was born about 1788, in Virginia. William is the son of William S. Wilder.
William is named in the will of his father, William S. Wilder, and was also named as one of the executor's of his father's will. William's father's will reads as follows: ""State of So. Carolina Sumter District} In the name of God Amen I William S Wilder state & district aforesaid Planter, make this my last Will and Testament (viz my body I give unto the earth my soul I resign into the hands of God who gave it. First after all my just debts are paid I give and bequeath unto my eldest son William D, Wilder one half of the tract of land whereon I reside at this time; one waggon, one feather bed, three head of cattle, one half of the household & kitchen furniture, one half of my stock of hogs and one half of my negro fellow Charles to him & to the heirs of his body forever. Item I give to my daughter Nancey Falconer my negro wench named Nancy & her child Bob and all her future issue & increase, one horse named Pony and two of the best cows among my stock of cattle to her and to the heirs of her body forever. Item I give to my son Griffin Wilder one half of my tracts of land on which I now live, on riding chair one feather bed three head of cattle, one half of my household and kitchen furniture, one half of my fellow Charles to him & to the heirs of his body forever. Whatever may be remaining of my estate to be equally divided among my two sons William D Wilder & Griffin Wilder. I appoint to this my last Will & testament William D Wilder, Griffin Wilder and William Falconer Executors to my estate. In Witness whereof I now set my hand and seal this 13 day of December Anno Domini one thousand Eight hundred & twenty two and in the forty seventh year of American Independence. Belser one of the subscribing witnesses thereto at same time qualified William D Wilder one of the named Executors in said Will May 7, 1823 [signed] William Potts Ordy S.D. State of South Carolina Sumter District} By William Potts Esquire Ordinary of said District. To all to whom these presents shall come Greeting know ye that on the 31 day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty three the last Will and testament of William S. Wilder late of the district and state aforesaid deceased was proven in open court and approved and allowed of before and by the said courts and the administration of all and singular the goods and chattles rights and credits of the said deceased within this state was thereupon granted and committed by the said court unto William D Wilder named Executor in the said Will, he being first duly sworn well and faithfully to administer and make a full and perfect inventory of all and singular the said goods and chattles, rights and credits of said deceased and to exhibit the same inventory into the Ordinary's Office of the Clerk of the Court of Sumter District and state aforesaid in order to be recorded on or before the first friday in March next and to tender a just and perfect according to calculation and reckoning thereof when there unto required. Witness William Potts Esquire Ordinary of the said District the thirty first day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty three and in the forty seventh year of American Independence."[1]
