Biography

Samuel Wilds was born on 13 February 1751.

He married Nancy Lide on 25 March 1782.

Samuel served as postmaster at Cheraw Court House from 1795 until the year of his death. He also sought to be a political influencer on both the local and national levels. His concern centered on the potential of the wealthy to control the republic and proposed the "Limitation of Estates ." Letters he wrote to both George Washington and James Madison regarding his views have been preserved in the national archives.

He died on 24 April 1803. He is buried in Lowther Hill Cemetery, Darlington County, South Carolina.
