The minutes of the Newgarden Quaker meeting for 12 4m (June) 1725 record
Nathaniel Richards has been found guilty of committing ye heinous sin of fornication with Margaret Wyly daughter of Allen Wyly.[1]
Margaret Adams Wiley was in a family history showing her birth in 1705, her parents (Allen Newby Wiley and Sarah (Adams) Wiley) and her final passing on 5 December 1796 in West Bradford, Chester (West Bradford), Pennsylvania, USA.[2]
Margaret Wiley, daughter of Allen and Sarah Wiley ( from Ireland) were in a family history showing that she and Nathaniel Richards (her husband) had three children ( William [married Joanna Jenkins and then Jane Miller], Nathaniel [married unknown] and Isaac [married Mary Gregg]). Secondly, (after Nathaniel's death in 1730) Margaret married William Carpenter (from England) whom she survived and she finally died in West Bradenton 12mon, 5 day, 1796.[3]
"Carpenter, William from England married Margaret, widow of Nathaniel Richards, of New Garden, and daughter of Allen Wiley."[4]
Margarett & William Carpenter's (the latter deceased) child, John Carpenter married Hannah Walter on 2 May 1759 in Kennett.[5]
Research notes
The date of Margaret's birth has been taken from the family history. The place of her birth has been estimated from the location of her parents at that time.
Margaret also features in the rather reliable History of the Harlan Family[6] which tells us
(The Richards Family p 163 ) Mary Gregg, a Friend, m 1753 Isaac Richards b Newgarden 1727 a son of Nanthaniel and Margaret Richards. (Also that Nathaniel Richards, a blacksmith, d 1700 m Mary Mason and had children including Nathaniel who married Margaret Wiley)
(The Carpenter Family p 62) William Carpenter came from England unm., but soon after m. Margaret Richards, the widow of Nathaniel and dau. of Allen Wiley. In 1746 he purchased 174 acres in New Garden Township, which he devised to his son John, and d. early in the year 1748, leaving four children, viz.: John, Thomas, Sarah (the latter of whom m. Michael Gregg (No. 101), 12, 11, 1755), and Albina. His eldest son, John, b. 1734, m. at Kennet Meeting. 5, 2, 1759, Hannah Walter; b. 8, 30, 1741 ; d. S, 15, 1800; a dau. of Joseph and Jane (Britton) Walter, of Chester County. John d. 3, 1, 1810, in New Garden Township. Children: (i) William, b. 10, 10, 1761 ; d. 7, 31, 1797; m. Rachel Carter, (ii) Joseph, b. i, 30. 1763; d. 10, 1, 1820; m. Rebecca Powell, (iii) Albina, b. 12, 29, 1765; m. Jesse Morgan, (iv) Hannah, b.1, 4, 1768; m. John Jefferis. (v) Phebe, b. 1770; m. Abraham Baily. (vi) Jane, b. 11, 24, 1772; m. William Webb, No. 760. (vii) Margaret, b. 1, 9, 1775 ; m. Joshua Powell, (viii) John, b. 2, 10, 1777. (ix) Isaac, b. 5, 5, 1779; d. 7, 23, 1833; m. Hannah Beaumont, (x) Rachel, b. 12, 3, 1782: m. -Abraham Baily. (xi) Cyrus, b. 8, 12, 1785; d. 11. 26, 1864; m. Sarah Worthington.
