Possibly a Revolutionary Soldier

Joseph Wiley never filed for a pension. His widow, Mary filed her declaration for pension R11,561) on 22 September 1851 as a resident of Harrison township, Darke County, Ohio, age 81 years, which was rejected possibly because she could give few details of his service. She could only state that her husband was drafted at Rockbridge County, Virginia for a six months term in the later part of the summer or fall of 1780 and that he served in the Virginia Militia under a Capt Gilmore, that he was at the battle of Cowpens. She stated that she married Joseph Wiley on 30 July 1781 and that he died on 7th day of July 1822.

Rockbridge County, Virginia Marriages show Joseph Wiley and Mary McCampbell with a date of 19 July 1791, possibly the later being the bond date.

Joseph was born in 1766. He passed away in 1822.
