John Wilhelm, 94, oldest member of Sacred Heart Parish, of Rockne, passed away in an Austin Hospital Wednesday morning, September 27 at 4 o'clock as the result of a heart attack. Mr. Wilhelm, who had the misfortune to break his hip last June, had been ailing since that time and confined to his bed and wheel chair. The Very Rev. Claude Faust officiated at the Requiem Mass offered in Sacred Heart Church, Rockne, Friday morning, September 29 at 10 a.m. Rosary was recited for the deceased at the home of his son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Wilhelm near Rockne, Thursday evening, September 28, at 7:15 p.m. Interment was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Rockne. Pall bearers were all grandsons, including Edwin Wilhelm, and James Wilhelm, Austin; Monroe Wilhelm, Bastrop; George Ahlstrom, San Antonio; Leroy Wilhelm of Sulphur Springs and Marvin Wilhelm of Rockne. Survivors are five sons, Eddie Wilhelm, Phillip Wilhelm, Louie Wilhelm and Willie Wilhelm, all of Rockne and Otto Wilhelm, San Antonio; three daughters; Mrs. William Ahlstrom (Katie) Mrs. Louis Supperville (Ida), San Antonio, Mrs. Ervin Goertz (Minnie), Rockne; two brothers, Andy Wilhelm, Rockne, Joe Wilhelm, Bastrop; 37 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Mr. Wilhelm was a prominent farmer and rancher in the Rockne Community until he retirement several years ago, and he was a life time member of the Catholic Church. He was the son of late John Wilhelm and Elizabeth Meuth Wilhelm, born May 12, 1877 at Rosanky. The deceased and Miss Annie Kunschick were married in Sacred Heart Church Bastrop, January 4, 1898, the first couple ever to be married in the church. Mrs. Wilhelm and three children preceded him in death. A host of relatives and friends from Austin, Bastrop, Mendoza, Rosanky, San Antonio, Smithville, String Prairie, Red Rock, Watterson and Rockne came to pay him a final tribute.
