Biography

John was born in 1807 in Lunenburg, Bedford Co., Virginia. He was the son of Nicholas Wilkerson and Malinda (DeWitt) Wilkerson.[1]

When John was about 20 he married Rebecca C. Kern on 24 December 1827 in Bedford County, Virginia, USA.[2][3][4]

In the 1850 census John (age about 43) was living in District 2, Russell, Kentucky.[5]

In the 1860 census John (age about 53) was living in Russell, Russell, Kentucky, USA.[1]

John served in the Civil War in Virginia.[6]


In the 1870 census John (age about 63) was living in Precinct 3 (Rowena), Russell, Kentucky, United States.[7]

In the 1880 census John (age about 73) was living in Jamestown, Russell, Kentucky, USA.[8]

John died about 1892 in Russell, Kentucky, United States.[9] (A duplicate of this profile had the death date 5 June 1880 but had no source for that date.

John was buried in Sewellton, Russell County, Kentucky, USA.[9]

Wilkerson-1369 and Wilkerson-759 appear to represent the same person because: Same birth year and county. Wife's name the same, allowing for spelling variant; same marriage date. Same death place. Main discrepancy is the death date, and the 1892 date on Wilkerson-759 is given as an alternative date in Wilkerson-1369.
