Biography

Henry was born in 1651 to Bray Wilkins and Hannah Way. He was baptized Jan. 7, 1651 in Salem, Mass.[1]

Birth Note: If the above date for Henry being baptized is correct then his actual birth should read "before 7 Jan 1651". Have not seen vital records, just going by what is printed above. (delete note if not useful or changes made)

"The Family of Bray Wilkins: "Patriach of WIll's Hill" gives an overview of Henry's life:[2]

  • In June 1680 was lame and disabled in body and excused from attending church functions and dismissed from training sessions of the foot company
  • He was made a freeman of Salem Mar 22, 1689-90
  • Is reported to have gone to Boxford to live in 1691.
  • Son Daniel "Bewitched to death May 16, 1692" as claimed by Rev. Samuel Parris during the Salem Witch Trials.
  • Lived in Salem Village during the Witch Trials.
  • Will signed Nov. 4, 1737 and probated Jan 9, 1738

Marriage and children

Henry married Rebecca Baxter, daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth Baxter in about 1673[3]. She was the mother of ten of his 12 known children and died in 1689. After Rebecca's death, Henry married Ruth Fuller[4], daughter of Thomas Fuller and Elizabeth Tidd and widow of Timothy Wheeler. She died in 1693.

"He was married twice and perhaps three times. Salem vital statistics state the wife of Henry was "Rebecca", born 1649 and died April 9, 1689, or Apr. 4, 1690. Various family records state the wives of Henry were (1) Sarah and (2) Ruth. Undoubtedly Ruth was his wife when he died for her name is signed to land transfers after Henry's death as "widow," on May 24, 1693." [5]
