Hi Gillian, thanks for the links to Hugglescote and John Wilkins. Did manage to travel through there a few years ago and drove past the Gate Inn, but didn't stop for a drink! I need to find the origin of the Hugglescote Wilkins family - did they move from local Agricultural Labouring to the occupations associated with mining with the lure of more money or did they travel from further afield? Also I think the Toplis surname has more to give too.
