Joseph Brooks Wilkinson, son of William Wilmington Wilkinson and Mary Emily Rivet, was born on 2 November 1902 in Iberville Parish, Louisiana, United States. He was baptized on 9 November 1902 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church in White Castle. His godparents were Richard Dupuy and Virginia Whely.[1]
He was enumerated with his parents on the 1910 census, living in Plaquemine, Iberville Parish.[2]
His father died in 1919, when Joseph was 16 years old.
He was enumerated with his widowed mother on the 1920 census in Plaquemine, where Joseph was working as a laborer at a box factory.[3]
Joseph was enumerated during the 1930 census, living in New Orleans with his brother William, at 3013 Banks Street. He was single, and worked as a truck driver for a general contractor.[4]
