Biography

Born 21 OCT 1842. , Pike, AL. [1]

Died 31 DEC 1863. Murfreesboro, Rutherford, TN. Note: This is the date in the Bible, but believe this should have been 1862. As this was the date 31 Dev 1862 of the battle at Murfreesboro, TN. It could have been 6 months before the Military notified his Parents of his death. The Bible reads: Alexander WILKINSON killed at Murfrosborogh, Tenn, 31 Dec 1863 died in defence of his country " May he find a resting place in heaven".

Christening: 3 NOV 1846. , , AL.

Census: 1850 , Pike, AL. [2] 1860 , Santa Rosa, FL. [3]

Event: Military 1862 Murfreesboro, Rutherford, TN. Note: Died in Civil War in battle at Stones River,TN. 31 Dec 1862, Dawn was a foggy, wet winter morning, when suddenly, Confederate muskets pierced the eerie silence. It surprised the sleeping Union soldiers who scrambled to their positions. Before the battle ended 2 Jan 1863, more than 83,000 men had fought at Stones River near Murfreesboro, TN. Nearly one-third of the men became casualties; both sides claimed victory. There are 7,123 headstones in Stones River National Cemetery. More than 6,100 of these are Union soldiers. The remaining burials are soldiers from later wars. Some of the 2,562 unknown graves contain more than one set of remains, and many of the post-Civil War burials include a family member buried with the soldier. About 2,000 Confederates are buried in the Confederate Circle at Evergreen Cemetery. This plot is their third resting place. They were buried on the battlefield by Union soldiers after the battle, and were moved to their own cemetery later. When the first Confederate cemetery fell into disrepair in 1867, the bodies were moved to Evergreen Cemetery.[4]
