Edward (Stephen) Wilkinson was born in 1853 in Borrowash, Derbyshire; his birth was registered in the Jan-Feb-Mar quarter of 1853 in the Shardlow district and his mother's maiden name was: Towle.^[1] He was christened in Ockbrook, Derbyshire on 19 February 1853; he was the son of John Slater Wilkinson^[2] and Louisa (Towle) Wilkinson.^[3]

Edward (Stephen) Wilkinson’s mother Louisa (Towle) Wilkinson was born in 1828 in Borrowash, Derbyshire and christened on 31 March 1828 in Ockbrook, Derbyshire^[8]; the daughter of Benjamin and Frances Towle. She married John Slater Wilkinson on 3 August 1850 in Ockbrook, Derbyshire^[9]
