Biography

Alice Willard, daughter of Simon Willard and Mary Whitcomb,[1] was born about 1705 in Lancaster, Middlesex, Massachusetts Bay Colony.[2] An alternate DOB, from the Whitney Genealogy, is December 1699.[3]

Alice owned the covenant and was baptized 20 July 1718[1] in Lancaster.[3]

Alice married Jonathan Whitney, son of Richard Whitney and Elizabeth Sawtell.[3] They were married by John Houghton, Esq., J.P., in Lancaster, Massachusetts on 25 February 1718/9.[4] Intentions may have been published 29 January 1718/9.[3][1] Their children were:

  1. Simon, born 20 March 1719/20, married Olive [Wetherbee] and [wid.] Patience Haseltine[3]
  2. Betsey, married Phineas Wetherbee,[3] born c. 1722 (est)
  3. Jonathan, married Sarah Holt,[3] born c. 1724 (est)
  4. Phinehas, born 5 September 1727[3]
  5. Caleb, born 4 October 1729, married Annus Church[3]
  6. Oliver, born 22 July 1731, married Abigail Hutchins[3]
  7. Alice, born 2 April 1733, married Timothy Whitney[3]
  8. Hezekiah, born [14] April 1735, married Lydia ____ and Lucy Pollard[3]
  9. Ruhamah, born 19 July 1737, married Abel Davis and had children[3]
  10. Sarah, born 1 June 1740, died 26 December 1746[3]

Alice was named in the will of her grandmother, Rebecca Whitcomb, dated 27 May 1720. Also named were: her mother Mary Fransworth wife of Samuel Farnsworth, and her siblings Eunice and Miriam, daughters of Simon WIllard, dec'd.[5]

Alice died on 19 February 1792 in Harvard, Worcester, Massachusetts,[6] aged ~86.[7]

The will of Rebecca Whitcomb mother of Mary Whitcomb mentions Alice and two of her sisters as well as her father Simon Willard.
