Biography

Elijah married (1)Mary ATHERTON on 30 March 1775 in Harwich, Barnstable, Massachusetts, United States. (Mary ATHERTON was born on 28 January 1753 in , , , United States and died in January 1794.)

Elijah married (2) Phebe ARCHER on 15 January 1795 in Keene, Cheshire, New Hampshire, United States.

The history of Dublin New Hampshire (1920) has the following:
"Rev., Elijah Willard, from Fitchburg, Mass., was b. at Harvard, Mass., Mar. 12, 1750/1 and d. in D[ublin]., Aug. 19, 1839. He was the son of Abraham, who d. in the American army during the old French War, and Mary Haskel WIllard. He m. 1st, Mar. 30, 1775, Mary Atherton of Harvard, b., Jan. 28, 1753; d., January 1794; dau. of Oliver and Rachel (Godfrey) Atherton; m. 2d, at Keene, N.H., Jan 15, 1795, Phebe Archer, b., Jan 15, 1772; d., Jan 15, 1826; m. 3d, Jan 24, 1827, Betsey Knight [sic] of Sudbury, Mass., d., May 19, 1871, ae. 95 years 10 mos.
He served in the Revolution, and was in the Battle of White Plains. February, 1794, he moved to D[ublin], where he was ordained pastor of the Baptist Church, and remained such until his death. He united one hundred and forty-six couples in marriage; and his health remained so firm that, only four weeks before his death, he preached a funeral sermon. [1]

Rev. Willard is buried in East Cemetery in Marlborough, Cheshire County, New Hampshire. [2]

Research Notes

The birth source shows "1750/51" which is an old style designation for the winter of 1750-1751. It has been mis-transcribed as a 1750 birth date but it should correctly be shown as 1751. Williams-27459 13:32, 14 December 2017 (EST)
