director of Francis Willey & Company, wool merchants. Served as a major 1888 to 1891 in the West Riding of Yorkshire Artillery Volunteers. High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire in 1908.1 He was created 1st Baron Barnby, of Blyth, co. Nottingham [U.K.] on 26 January 1922
