William Hamilton Willey[1][2][3]
was born in May 1829,[4]
probably in Ireland.[5][6][7]
Most records, including the 1855 state census,[5] claim he was born in Ireland, but the 1860 census claims he was born in England,[8] and two of his children's death certificates claim he was born specifically in London.[1][2]
According to the 1880 census, he was born in Ireland, but his parents were born in England.[6]
He reportedly immigrated in 1845.[5][4]
This was right at the beginning of the Great Famine; perhaps that led him to emigrate from Ireland.[9]
On 24 July 1853, he married Frances Futvoye, in Manhattan, New York, New York.
[3]
In 1900, Frances reportedly had had eleven children, six of whom were living.[4]
Their children (apparently) include:[8][6][4]
In 1855, William and Frances were living in ward 22, New York City, New York, with their child Alpha.
William was a druggist, and was still an alien.
[5]
In 1860, William and Frances were living in ward 20, New York County, New York, with their children Alpha, John J, and Mary, along with Daniel Wilson.
William was a carpenter, and owned $200 in personal property.
[8]
He moved to Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey, about 1869 (presumably with his family).[7]
In 1880, William and Frances were living in Jersey City, with their children Mary, Charles, Lillie, and Florence, and their niece Frances Ward.
William was an inspector.
Their son John was living in the next household, with his wife Mary and daughter Ethel.
[6]
In 1900, William and Francis were living at 55 Waverly Street, Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey, with their daughter Florence.
William was reportedly a naturalized US citizen.
He was a carpenter, and had been unemployed for 11 months.
[4]
He died on 9 September 1901, at 55 Waverly Street, Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey.
The cause of death was chronic cystitis and acute nephritis; he had been ill for four week.
He was a carpenter.
He was buried in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp, Richmond County (Staten Island), New York.
