William was born in 1615. He passed away in 1656.
Searched Lancashire OPC for christening with attached parents of Humphrey Cheatham and Mary without success. A possible christening is;
Oct. 2022: he definitely was not the son of Sir Humphrey Chetham (1580-1653), since Humphrey was never married. He however “adopted children of his poorer neighbors,” but no record of who they were thus far exists.
Son Thomas is uncertain. Sources have different father for son as noted in Thomas Cheatham I (1644-1726).

2nd I am in agreement that Sir Humphrey was never married ...I see nothing that stops Humphrey from having a mistress...the other option is that one of George or James (his brothers) children were definately Humphrey's heir and the line jumped?
