Biography
Dorcas was named as his wife in Richard Gildersleeve's will dated 7 April 1690 ...they lived in / of Hempstead ..."to wife Dorkis the dwelling, some land, a riding horse etc." Abstracts of Early Wills of Queens County, New York, Recorded in Libers A and C of Deeds. [1]
Dorcas was born 1634 [2]and died after 1704. [3]She married Richard Gildersleeve 1654.New England Marriages Prior to 1700, Clarence Almon Torrey, pg. 303
Notes
Matthew Wood in his article in the New York Genealogical & Biographical Record, Vol. 119, Apr. & Jul. 1988, states that she is probably not the daughter of Moyles Williams. He also states that Moyles' wife was Ann Pankhurst.
In Hempstead Census of 1698 Dorcas Gildersleeve is listed next to Phebe Thickston who was named in Richard Gildersleeve's will without an indication of her relationship to him. Next Damares Lester. They are surrounded by numerous persons bearing the surnames of Smith and Wood. [4]
