Muriel was born and raised in Boulder and attended Boulder Primary and Eastern Goldfields High School where she was awarded a Hacket Bursary. She attended the University of W.A. in Perth for one year and was appointed as a monitor to Dalwallinu. After accepting that position she was later transferred to Mullewa. She attended Claremont Teachers Training College and was appointed to Boulder Primary School, which position she held until her marriage to Frank whom she met at a dance in 1938 at the Hippodrome, which later became Ludins Furniture Shop in Hannan Street, Kalgoorlie. They were married in the Queens Church (Methodist) in Piesse Street Boulder on the 4th day of April 1942. They adopted their only child, (me), a girl not long after I was born in 1948.
Mum played hockey at school and tennis in the early years of marriage but as she matured took up golf and bowls. Mum and Dad were deeply in love. Many a evening when Dad came home from work, I can remember him walking into the kitchen and putting his arms around her waist and dance her around the kitchen. Sometimes she would have a spoon in one hand and a saucepan in the other. This happened time after time and is a very fond memory I have of them both.
After Frank had been in the Kalgoorlie Rotary Club for some years, a group of ladies led by a young Yvonne Cavazzi formed the Inner Wheel Club of Kalgoorlie—Boulder in 1989. Muriel was a foundation or as they call it a Charter Member and she really enjoyed the fun and friendship this new club bought her. She held the position of Correspondent in the club. The ladies of the club have erected a bench seat at the local Kalgoorlie Boulder Crematorium in her honour. It is under the trees just inside the gate and has proved to be very handy for many people waiting to attend funerals. I was invited to join the Inner Wheel club by Yvonne Cavazzi in 2006 and was a member until March 2023.
Muriel was at a very special Bowls competition when she passed away. She had just been awarded a very special award and the excitement got to her and she could not find her bag to get some of her tablets due to the crowd there. She had a heart attack and passed away doing what she loved. Very sadly missed and dearly loved. RIP Mum your with the love of your life Frank now forever. Thank you both for such a loving childhood and being such lovely loving parents.
