David Williams served in the 10th North Carolina Regiment, Capt. Coleman's Company, in the Revolutionary War, enlisting January 10, 1782, serving 12 mos.

In 1819, David and family and also his wife's brother, Charles James and his wife, moved to the new County of Irwin.

David's home was the place where the first Superior Court in Irwin County was held September 21, 1820; his home was made temporary county-seat until a permanent site could be selected. The first election in Irwin was held in April 1820, for five Justices of the Inferior Court; David was one of those elected. The first term was held at his home, July 3, 1820. Courts and elections were continued to be held at the Williams home until July 2, 1822.

David served as a Justice of the Inferior Court of Irwin County, 1820-25, and as Representative to the General Assembly, 1820, 1821, 1822. He died in May, 1832, intestate; and was buried in what is now an old abandoned burying-ground one mile north of the Dorminy Cemetery on the Ocmulgee River, in present Ben Hill County, grave unmarked.

Mrs. Mary Williams, the widow, and Redding Hunter applied for administration of the Williams estate Nov. 6, 1832, and were appointed January Term, 1833, Irwin Inferior Court. A Year's Support was set apart to the widow Jan. 28, 1833. On April 27, 1833, she applied for a dowry out of the estate, which was granted May 16, 1833, and consisted of the home-place on Lots 88 and 114, 4th District. Receipts from the 8 heirs for their shares, all dated Jan. 23, 1837, appear recorded in Minute Book "A" of Irwin Inferior Court; these receipts are signed by Thomas Hunter, William Hall, Elisha Tucker, Barbara Williams, Mrs. Mary Williams, Willis King, Thomas Hunter and Thomas H. Thomas. Note: The husbands of the daughters signed their own names as heirs, the law at that time making the wife's inheritance to automatically pass to the husband and title to vest in him.

Is there a David Williams born 18o1 who is their son?
