Biography

In 1920 he was 7 living with his parents and sisters.

Married Sara Carpenter 14 Oct 1936.

He filled in a draft card on Oct 16, 1940 when he was 28. Around that time he was working in "Tony's Cafe" in Meridian.

In 1941 Homer was working at the "Smackover" cafeteria in Meridian

He was drafted or enlisted some time around 27 May 1942.

He served in the U.S. Navy SeaBees in the Pacific during WWII as a cook. At least some of that time he was at Midway. Navy SN 644-24-68.

Released from the Navy on 26 Oct 1945 in New Orleans he returned to Meridian where he worked at Weidman's Restaurant. Around 1950, with wife Sara Margaret, he moved to Brewton, AL where they ran a restaurant in the Lovelace Hotel. Around 1954 they opened Homer's Restaurant (Cafe?) in Demopolis, AL. Then around 1957 they returned to Brewton and opened the Old South Restaurant.

Homer was an alcoholic and developed cirrhosis of the liver both of which contributed ultimately to his suicide in Brewton on 3 Nov 1959,
