John and Catherine emigrated from Wales with 2 children, Ann and William. They arrived in South Australia in 1856 on the Lord Hungerford.^[3] Daughter Catherine was born in South Australia in 1858.

They moved to Victoria where daughter Sarah was born in Castlemaine in 1861 and Margaret at Jail Hill, Castlemaine, Victoria in July 1863.

He passed away in 1896 at the Castlemaine Hospital ^[4] and was buried at Chewton, Victoria. ^{[5] [6]}
