Although no birth registration was found, census reports indicate William was born in St Helens, Lancashire, England, in 1872. He was the son of William Williams and Catherin (Unknown), and appears to be one of six children. He was enumerated in the 1881 census [1] residing with his family in Windle, Lancashire. In 1891, [2] William was living in Bolton, Lancashire, with his parents and four siblings, ages twenty two to nine years old. He stated his occupation as "Hairdresser".
