Biography

John Williams was born on 13 July 1823 at Wroxton in Oxfordshire and was baptised on 25 December 1823 in the Independent Church of Wroxton and Great Bourton, as the son of John Williams, a farmer, of Wroxton, and his wife Elizabeth, born Elizabeth Page. [1] [2] [3]

In 1841 John Williams was living at Wroxton with John and Elizabeth Williams (presumably his parents) and their other children. His age was given as 15, implying a birth date between 1821 and 1826. [2]

John Williams, bachelor, of full age, a farmer, of Wroxton, son of John Williams, farmer; and Mary Carpenter, spinster, of full age, of Wroxton, daughter of Joseph Carpenter, farmer; were married at the parish church of Wroxton on 16 August 1850. [3]

In 1851 John Williams was living at Lower Berry Fields Farm in Hook Norton in Oxfordshire with his wife Mary. His age was given as 27, implying a birth date in 1823 or 1824. His birthplace was given as Wroxton, Oxfordshire. He was a farmer, of 86 acres employing 3 labourers. [4]

In 1881 John was living at Tilsleys Cottage in Hook Norton with his wife Mary and their son, also called John. His age was given as 57, implying a birth date in 1823 or 1824. His birthplace was given as Wroxton, Oxfordshire. He was a farmer, of 73 acres employing 1 labourer and 1 boy. [5]

In 1901 John was living at Dove House in Hook Norton with his wife Mary. His age was given as 77, implying a birth date in 1823 or 1824. His birthplace was given as Wroxton, Oxfordshire. He was a retired farmer, living on his own means. [6]

John Williams died at Hook Norton on 6 February 1909, at the age of 85. [7] [8]
