Nancy Maryann was the adopted daughter of Lightfoot and Mary (Weidner) Williams.

Marriage bond dated 26 March 1833.[2] Their marriage is further confirmed by a deed of trust executed by Jonas Chapman (see following).

12 September 1851, Catawba County, North Carolina, deed book 3: 20–21. Jonas Chapman and Mary Ann Chapman of Catawba County convey in trust to Major Hull of Lincoln County, all the Negro Slaves, to wit: Macus about age 22, Catharine or Kate about age 25, Jane about age 7, Coy about age 5, and Jacob or Jake about age 3; all the household and kitchen furniture, all the livestock (cattle, sheep, hogs, poultry), and all the real estate of Jonas Chapman to wit: five tracts of land on the waters of Jacobs Fork joining each other totaling 667 acres being the lands which Lightfoot Williams willed to Nancy Mary Ann Williams, who is now the wife of Jonas Chapman.
The trust allows Trustee Major Hull to sell as much of the personal property or the real estate in order to satisfy Jonas Chapman's debts. The balance of the assets are to be managed by Major Hull for the sole and separate benefit of Nancy Mary Ann Chapman (Jonas Chapman's wife) and their children.
"Jonas Chapman is fully aware of the amount of property he has heretofore improvidently spent as well as of his unfortunate habits and is desirous of atoning as far as possible for past rongs and is desirous of securing the ballance of his property as securing and paying off all his just debts for the further protection and support of Nancy Mary Ann Chapman (his wife) and his children."

Chapman and Sarah Wacasser, all residents of Catawba County, N. C. (except the last mentioned) who is a resident of Lincolnton [Lincoln County], N.C.
