Earl’s legacy includes being a retired decorated Deputy from the Denver Sheriff's Department in Denver Colorado, where he lived for many years, with the highest honor given, receiving TWO Medal of Valor awards with in his 27 year career. The 1st for running into a blazing fire saving 3 people and the 2nd for saving over 130 KKK members during the 1992 MLK Jr. riots in Denver, Colorado. Before becoming a Sheriff, Earl worked for Gates Rubber Company in Denver as well as Baker’s Shoe Store. He also worked at Arrow Mine Chemical plant in Mt. Pleasant Tennessee prior to coming to Colorado and for Frontier Airlines post his Sheriff's department retirement.
He loved Fishing, loved camping, was a really good Tennis player and played Football. It was rumored he played for the Denver Broncos in the early 1970’s. He allegedly tried out (in those days they had tryouts) and during a practice broke his leg, Dr said if he broke it again he’d never walk again, and that is when he became a deputy sheriff. So he never got to play a real game, but at one time he knew all the players.
My father was stricken with Alzheimers in his 70’s and was a diabetic from about age 40 on, which for many years was diet controlled to where he didn’t need Insulin.
