During the Great Depression, when my mother was a child, they frequently traveled between her grandmother's homes in Wilson County, Tennessee, and Quebeck, White County, Tennessee, to visit her other grandparents. She met my father while working at the Washington Manufacturing Corporation in Nashville; before 1960, they relocated to San Diego, California.
She raised my brothers and I while staying at home and not working, but she did volunteer a lot. She participated in both my brother's Boy Scout and my Girl Scout activities. We relocated to Tennessee in 1976, purchased land, and established a farm with cows, pigs, and other animals; however, she also chose to work at Red Kap Industries in Sparta, Tennessee.
She later made the decision to attend vocational school to become an LPN nurse and worked at several nearby nursing homes. In 2001, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, but she overcame it and continued to lead an active life until a few years before her death. She was very interested in family history and was well-versed in our small community's genealogies.
