Sarah Louise Williams (aka Louisa Berry) was born 6 Mar 1842, to Ira Williams (1814?-24 Jun 1847) and Olive Cook (Ufford) Champney (aka Williams) (1817-1899) in Owego, New York.[1]
Early Life
When Sarah was five years of age, 25 Jun 1847 her father died, and she was sent to live with her grandmother's brother, Ansel Berry (1805-1890) in Norwich, New York.[2]
By the time Sarah was thirteen years of age she was recorded on the New York, State Census, 1855 as Sarah L. Berry.[3]
At age eighteen, she was still listed as living with her great uncle, in Norwich, New York, as Sarah Berry, a Scholar.[4]
A combination of these Census recordings may be the reason that she is listed as Louisa Berry in Thomas Minor Descendants 1608-1981.[5]
Sarah is also recorded in the Family Bible as Sarah L. Berry.[5][6]
First Marriage
Sarah first married Sereno Weston Miner 9 SEP 1863, in Norwich, New York.[5][6] He died 09 Mar 1870, and at the time of the 1870 US Federal Census, 28 Jun 1870, she and the two small children were still residing in Norwich, New York.[7]
