Bruce: Hello. I have only recently noticed your profiles involving members of the Grace family and wonder if you would care to share with me some of your research, as my roots stem from Charles Grace (Henry's older brother).

Would you please be able to advise me of your connection with this family ? Any/all assistance would be appreciated. Many thanks, stay safe, stay well. Regards.....Phil (Grace-883)

Hi Bruce,

It's that time of the year again: check-in time! As England Project Leaders, we like to check in with you every six months or so to see how things are progressing. Back in May, we didn't ask for a response due to the rapid emergence of Covid-19 because we understood that people's lives were changing rapidly. While we are still living in a Covid world, we do need to hear back from you this time around

First of all, how are you doing? What are you currently working on? Are you happy with the team(s) you're in, or would you like to change things up?

Secondly, we're looking for some feedback on the Google Group and our Discord server. Do you use either or both of these? If you don't use either, why not? Do you have any suggestions on how we can improve participation and collaboration, either generally or for you personally?

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Lizzie, Amy, Joan

COVID - <sigh> - So glad to be typing this in OZ (the land down under). All team members that are residents of Britain, USA, and Europe have my deepest sympathy. The lock downs that we have been through here are a mere inconvenience compared to the devastation you are going through, both direct effects of the virus and broader mental health and financially. And to those team members that are in other locations that are experiencing impacts somewhere between these extremes, you also have my thoughts. This is definitely one of those times where we need to be looking out each other - even if it can only be done remotely.

How am I doing? From a WT perspective I am still progressively transcribing the information I have on my family. The need to find reliable sources and write up a "short biography" is a great discipline. It has allowed me to fill in some gaps. And yep find a few errors that need tidying up. I have also managed some small contributions to the broader tree, which I'll cover soon.

Outside of WT, life keeps getting in the way. Nothing bad - just a lot happening. However, it does mean that sometimes my responses are a bit slow in coming. It also means that a couple of objectives that I set myself have had to slip. I'm sure that isn't a unique problem.

Teams: Currently I am only in the Sourcerers team. This was a conscious decision of mine. My extended family is from so many counties that it is too hard to pick one. And as part of the diaspora, I don't bring a lot of local knowledge. My contributions to that team haven't been as wide as I would have liked. The first family I picked ended up migrating to Canada and I got stuck in their descendants - the usual mix of gedcom import suspects. From a broader WT perspective it has been good to clean them up, but it isn't making the actual English profiles any cleaner. New Objective: FOCUS. At this stage, I am happy.

Given how far back one of my ancestral lines goes, I am going to have to do OT2 and pre-1500 certification. This may result in me looking at some of the other teams. I will contact the OT when I get a bit of my time back. I know I said that six months ago. I will get there.

Google group: i flick through the emails that come out each day. It is interesting to see what is going on around the traps. While some of them are lame "xxx is my eleventy seventh ancestor", I wouldn't be changing anything here.

Discord: I haven't touched it. My wife uses it for her gaming activities. So, I can see the use. I just haven't summoned up the courage to explore it. OT2 is probably a higher priority for me at the moment. Also, I tend to be a lurker rather than a poster.

I don't have any specific thoughts on how to improve participation and / or collaboration. The main thought I have is that the greatest value the team provides is the desire to have well researched and properly sourced profiles. It would be great to see this desire spread to other projects - and yes I know that this can only come through "leadership by example". We need to be careful not to let this one slip as we try and widen our audience / contributor base.

Thank you all for the leadership provided by the project leaders and the wider team leaders over what has been a challenging time for all of us.

Hi Bruce,

Your England Leaders are completing the six monthly check in with all team members. I wanted to thank you for your work on English Profiles and particularly your work in the orphan trail.

These are unprecedented and difficult times, and we understand as Project Leaders that your situation may have changed somewhat in the last few months. What we are all able to/ wish to contribute on Wikitree has changed. Please let me know if you are happy with your current role and team choice or if you wish to do something additional or different. Thank you again on behalf of all the project leaders for everything you do.

Joan

Thanks for the check up. I am very happy with my roll in the Sourcerers Team. We'll all agree to ignore that it has me distracted with a pile of American descendants that are also missing sources.

I need to pick up the second part of the Orphan Trail. However, I can contact the trail blazers directly. I need to tidy up a couple of other things first.

Thanks for responding Bruice,

Do what you can, when you can. Every little bit helps. Let the OT leaders know when you are aready to do the second part of the trail.

Regards Joan

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz, B.!

Pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, thus coordinating with others is essential.

These projects will fit your ancestors: Scottish Clans Project Leaders are Maria Maxwell, Doug Straiton and England Project.. Leaders are Wendy Sullivan, Susie MacLeod Click the link to read how to join.

Or use the Pre-1700 Projects list, at the top of your page, 4th topic on right, under <Find> and <Projects>.

For questions, just ask!
