Biography

Charles Augustus Williams was probably born about 1796, based on his age of 40 at death.

It is unknown how he came to Australia, however an article in the Sydney Morning Herald referred to him as an 'assigned servant' which would suggest that he was a convict.[1]

Charles married Elizabeth Ross at St. Phillip's Anglican Church, Sydney, on 11 April 1836.[2][3] He died seven months later in a workplace accident.

Coroner's Inquest

CORONER'S INQUESTS[1]

Another inquest was held on Monday at May's Sportsman's Arms, on the body of an assigned servant to Mr. Peterson, named Charles Williams, who was killed by falling from a temporary scaffold on which he was walking, at Dr. Bowman's house on the Glebe. Verdict - Accidental death.

CORONER'S INQUEST[4]—On Monday an inquest was held at the Sportsman's Arms, Parramatta road, on the body of Charles Williams. It appeared that deceased was employed painting on the outside of Dr. Bowman's house on the Glebe Land, when he lost his footing, fell from the scaffold, and was killed upon the spot. The Jury returned a verdict of "Accidental death." The deceased was a married man, with a family.
