George was born in Taunton, Massachusetts in 1717. On 6 Jan 1736 he married Sarah Hodges. She was the daughter of Henry Hodges and Sarah Leonard and died at age 83 on 26 Nov 1797, six years before George. He was remarried on 19 Jul 1798 to a widow, Mercy (Nancy) Dean, though all of his children were born in Taunton with his first wife, Sarah. The children include: Sarah, Phebe, George, Anna (Hannah), Ebenezer, Lydia, Richard, Abiatha and perhaps two unnamed children who both died about age nine.
Colonel George Williams served with 3rd Regiment, Bristol County Militia, Massachusetts Militia during the American Revolution.

George was chosen by the Mass. Legislature in 1776 to serve as Colonel of the 3rd Bristol Co. Regiment, a position he held for three years during the American Revolution.

He had served as an Ensign in the 3rd Foot Co. of Taunton under Capt. Ebenezer Dean and Col. Ephraim Leonard in 1754. During the French and Indian (Seven Years) War in 1757 he was taken prisoner.
George Williams of Taunton executed his last will on 6 Oct 1803, witnessed by Edward Dean, Job Godfrey, and James Williams, making bequests to:[5]

George died in Taunton on 5 Dec 1803 at about age 86.[6]
Inventory on his estate was ordered on 9 Dec 1803 of Joseph Dean, Philip Dean, Godfrey Robinson, and returned on 3 Jan 1804, presented by George Williams, executor. It was appraised at $14,376.88.[5]
