Ron was born on 7 August 1920 [1] at his parents home in Derby, in north-east Tasmania.
His father John James Williams and Mother Lavinia Mary Williams (nee Jacobs), headed a poor but happy, loving family of eight children. His father worked in the tin mines around Derby.
He was educated at the Derby State School, where he won a scholarship to attend the Scottsdale High School. Unfortunately due to the Depression era, and his family’s poor circumstances, he was unable to accept the scholarship, so he completed only primary school, then went to work to help support the family.
His first job after leaving school was in a drapers shop. He trapped rabbits to sell for extra money, then moved to Ringarooma, to work in the General Store – where he met Dorothy Annette Wardlaw. . . more . . . . VWMA virtual . .
