Benjamin married Harriet Wingfield in Missouri. They where married by her Uncle Jesse Applegate.
In 1843 they, along with his brother David and his family, walked to Oregon with his wife Harriets uncles, the Applegate Brothers.
His father and mother, Richard and Keziah Huckabee, had moved in 1841.
Benjamin and Harriet lost several children in Missouri, but had 4 sons when they arrived in Oregon.
Benjamin was a carpenter and was helping the Applegate Brothers settle Yoncalla. Going back and forth, his family lived on Jesse's land, which is present day Dallas, Oregon, while Jesse was making the road down to Yoncalla.
On one of his trips coming back from Yoncalla he was ambushed and shot by an Indian. When he did not return, a party set out to find him, bringing him back to Hillsboro, where he died probably at his parents home
June 18 1852.
When Ben died his mother and wife placed him in Hillsboro Pioneer Cemetery, before it was a cemetery. He rests in the row with his Mother. He has no Headstone. A portion of the cemetery was the Williams/Kelsey land.
