Biography

John Caddell Williams Jr., 67, of Wytheville, Va., passed away on Monday, February 10, 2014, at home after a sudden illness. Born April 29, 1946, in Wytheville, Va., he was the son of the late John C. and Betty Shelburne Williams of Wytheville. He attended George Wythe High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army, performing two tours of duty in Vietnam, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a retired coal miner, having lived many years in McDowell County, W.Va., before returning home to Wythe County after retirement.

John was a lifelong outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting and fishing of all kinds. He took great pride in his hunting dogs, as well as the many hunting trophies he accumulated throughout the years. He was an active member of the Walker-Terry Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans in Wytheville, as well as the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also greatly enjoyed spending time with his seven grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Bonnie Davidson Williams; and two brothers, Clarence Williams and Edward Williams. He is survived by four sons, John Caddell Williams III and wife, Patricia, of Piney Flats, Tenn., Samuel Shane Williams and wife, Gerry, of Portland, Tenn., Joel Lee Williams and wife, Janie, of Rock, W.Va., and Stacy Todd Williams and wife, Tracy, of White House, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Alisa Williams, of Chattanooga, Tenn., Savannah and Chelsea Williams, of Bristol, Tenn., Audrey Williams, of Rock, W.Va.; Hannah and Andrew Williams, of White House, Tenn., and Shiloh Williams, of Piney Flats, Tenn.; brothers; Samuel Williams, and wife, Naomi, of Elliston, Va., Garnet Williams, of Lynchburg, Va., William Williams, of Rocky Comfort, Mo., and Raymond Williams, and wife, Arlinda, of Clyde, Texas; a sister, Frances Williams Bevil, of Salem, Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

John Williams is a good man that I met through family history. He loved to talk about his Civil war ancestors and re-enactments. He was a coal miner by trade and Hunter by heart.
