News Article FIRE AT A POULTRY FARM, 15 feb 1894

The Age Melbourne(trove)Page 6 https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/192190409?searchTerm=Fire%20Poultry%20Farm ..Yesterday afternoon a 6-roomed dwelling house, tho property of Mr. T. C. Williams, situated at the corner of Orange-grove and Ker- ford' street North Essendon was, with its contents totally destroyed by fire. Mr. Williams, who resided on the premises, is a poultry farmer, but owing to the efforts of the . fire brigade and tho direction of the wind, the outhouses, coops, &c., were not injured. Shortly after the alarm was given . the Metropolitan Fire Brigade had three hose carts and one hand reel on tho spot, but all that could be done was to prevent the fire spreading to the surrounding outbuildings. Nearly 2000 feet of hose had to be used, and the water pressure was very inadequate. The cause of the outbreak is not known. Mrs. Williams left a fire burning in the kitchen while she went to feed the poultry, and shortly afterwards the room was in a blaze. . Tho house and furniture were insured in the London and Lancashire Fire Office, but Mr Williams could not, at the moment, state for what amount.
