Biography

His 2010 obituary gives a look at his life:

MONTELLO - Harold Williamson, 89, of Montello, passed away into the Lord's presence Wednesday morning, Aug. 11, 2010, at Divine Savior Healthcare in Portage.

Harold was born Dec. 27, 1920, in the town of Packwaukee, Marquette County, to Leslie E. and Charlotte Wilkins Williamson. He married Clora C. Rabbitt on April 10, 1943. She preceded him in death in June 1980. He was a lifelong resident of the town of Packwaukee, residing at his birthplace on Buffalo Lake and on the homestead farm, where he farmed until his death. He attended Williams Grade School, graduating to attend Westfield High School while staying with his sister, Mary, and husband/brother-in-law Henry Alexander for two school years. As a young man, he had a great passion for sports; speed skating on Buffalo Lake, skiing and snowshoeing, and playing baseball as a pitcher and shortstop for a local team. He and his brother, John, were crack shots with a .22 rifle, throwing small targets up in the air and, most times, hitting them. He was also an accomplished wing shot on waterfowl and upland game birds. In addition, he loved trapping and hunted deer from his early teens up to and including the 2009 season. Harold developed a fine herd of Angus cattle, but later sold them and invested in a farrow-to-finish hog operation in partnership with his two sons, who still live on the homestead farm. He also worked as a state government crop enumerator, was a mechanic for Jones Implement in Montello, and a maintenance worker at Speed Queen in Ripon. He was a clerk on the Frink grade school board, served on the board of directors for the Farm Bureau at Oxford, and was a 4-H leader. Harold was a longtime member of Buffalo Presbyterian Church (now Buffalo Community Church), where he served as an elder and Sunday school teacher. He later became a member and Sunday school teacher at Grace Bible Church in Portage. In his recent years, he joined Oxford Bible Church, where he worshipped. He loved and served the Lord and studied the Bible and biblical commentaries ardently. Serving him was his No. 1 priority.

In addition to his wife and parents, Harold was preceded in death by his brothers, Irwin and John, and sister, Mary Alexander, along with a granddaughter, Lisa Purin of Dodgeville. Harold is survived by his sons, Richard and Leslie; daughters, Barbara (Richard) Purin of Dodgeville and Marietta (Patrick) Bentley of Princeton; along with seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Fae Williamson of Montello, Lois Rabbitt of Milledgeville, Ill., and Ardith McDowell of Madison; as well as many nieces, nephews, and a beloved golden retriever, Max.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Oxford Bible Church in Oxford, with the Rev. Donald Wedel officiating. Burial will be at Underhill Cemetery near Packwaukee. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Oxford Bible Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Rural Bible Crusade, P.O. Box 635, Marshfield, WI 54449-0635.

Oxford Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Oxford assisted the family.
