Biography

Judith Williamson. [1]

Biography

Judith was born about 1749. She passed away about 1783

Judith Williamson and Judith Williamson appear to represent the same person because: According to a deed of sale of the property of John Williamson (sp. Prudence Cox) by the children of the couple, Judith Williamson (sp. William Allen Lancaster) is the daughter of John and Prudence, not of John's brother Thomas.

The source comes from Henrico County, Virginia, records: Feb. 19, 1771:

John Sutton Farrar and Susannah [daughter of deceased], his wife, Samuel Williamson [son of deceased], Allen Williamson [son of deceased], Thomas Williamson [son of deceased], James Browning and Ann [daughter of deceased], his wife, William Miller and Elizabeth [daughter of deceased], his wife, Groves Harding and Sarah [daughter of deceased], his wife, William Allen Lankaster and Judith [daughter of deceased], his wife, and Lucy Williamson [daughter of deceased], residual legatees under the will of John Williamson, dec'd, to Charles Snead of Henrico Co., for 30 pounds, 170 acres in Henrico on Georges Branch. Witnessed: Daniel Kelly, Robert Snead. Recorded August 5, 1771. (p 293)

Furthermore, the article "Williamson Family" (Virginia Magazine of History and Biography 6 (1898): 76-77) makes no mention of a daughter named Judith for Thomas and Judith (Fleming) Williamson, but the article only mentions one son, John, so cannot be used to exclude a daughter named Judith.

Nevertheless, another article, "The Williamson Family History" Kathryn C. Lee, The Quarterly 15 (1969): 34-42) does give a full listing of Thomas and Judith (Fleming) Williamson's children and does not mention a daughter named Judith.

On balance, the evidence indicates that Judith Williamson (sp. William Allen Lancaster) is the daughter of John Williamson, not of his brother Thomas.
