Biography

Stephen Douglas Williford was born in 1857, the son of James Madison and Fannie Malinda (White) Williford, in Bond County, Illinois, where he was raised. Stephen would spend most of his life in Illinois.

On January 20, 1878, Stephen married Sarah Angeline Yarbrough, the daughter of Leander and Mary Ann (Holt) Yarbrough, in Bond County, where they initially made their home and had five children:

Clyde Williford (1889–1960)

Alvah Williford (1896–1976)

By 1900 Stephen and Sarah had left Bond County in favor of Effingham County, Illinois. According to the 1910 U.S. Census they had moved again, this time to Freeport, Stephenson County, Illinois, where they lived out their lives.

Stephen worked for a railroad company and then in a manufacturing company over the years. He lived to be 72 years old passing away in 1929, while Sarah lived on until 1941 when she died at 84 years of age. Their bodies are buried together in the Oakland Cemetery in Freeport, Stephenson County, Illinois.
