Biography

Green was the oldest child of Micajah and Elizabeth Williford. He married his first wife, Marthenie Bullard, daughter of Wiley Bullard, Jr. and Mary Fitzgerald, in 1859. Together they had one child, Lula Ophelia Williford (1860-1903). Marthenie died at the age of 21 in 1863 while Green was gone, serving with Company H, 6th Regiment, Georgia Infantry of the Confederate Army in the Civil War.

The 6th Regiment of the Georgia Infantry fought in some of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. They included: the Battle of Fredericksburg, the Battle of Antietam, the Battle of Chancellorsville and the Battle of Olustee.

Green suffered a severe foot wound in 1864 that rendered his foot useless the rest of his life. He would receive an annual stipend until he died.

Shortly after the end of the Civil War, Green married Marthenie's younger sister, Polly Ann Bullard. Together they would have the following children:

Green would pass away in 1911.
