Amanda was born in 1888 in Aiken, SC. She was the daughter of Levie Willis and Susan Burckhalter. In the mid-1900s she married William Jeffus Barton. They had five known children. They lived in Aiken throughout their lives. It is here she passed away in 1965 and buried at the First Baptist Church of Montmorenci Cemetery.
