Emma was born in Rothwell about 1859. By 1881 she was living in Leicester at 11 Gladstone St (she also stayed at 50 Chatham St around the same time with her Aunt Adah's widowed husband William Hubbardwho was a baker) and it was in November of this year that she married William Grant. Unfortunately I don't know much about her early life as the 1881 census shows her as a 'visitor' and, as she wenton to have eight children, her work would have been running the family home! This was something that Emma would have been used to as she came from a family of at least eleven children herself.
Emma was still alive in 1911 as shown in the census living at 19 Grape St, Leicester. She died in December 1920 whilst living at 82 Highcross Street - Kelly's Directory of Leicester 1919 shows Emma atthis address - apartments. It is on the corner of Blue Boar Lane. Emma's daughter Hilda and her husband Colin Gilbert later lived at the same address in a flat above their furniture shop.
