William was born in 1841 in Fremantle, Western Australia, the son of James Willis and Elizabeth Woodcock.[1]

The funeral of the late Mr. William Ford Willis, fisherman, of 14 Rose-street, South Fremantle, took place on Tuesday afternoon last in the Angli can portion of the Fremantle Ceme tery, and was largely attended. The deceased was born in Fremantle 71 years ago and had resided there all his life. The cortege moved from his late residence, 14 Rose-street, South Fremantle, and proceeded thence to the Fremantle Cemetry. The chief mourners were: Messrs. John Joseph and George A. Willis, Messrs. G. F. and A. W. Woods, and A. and Charles Gallop (nephews), Mr. James Gallop (nephew in-law), Messrs. G. Gallop, D. Gallop, and H. Gallop (great-nephews). The pall-bearcrs were: Messrs. T. Hudson, H. Adams, J. Brown, and H. A. Gilmour. The Rev. F. T. Bowen offici ated at the graveside. Large numbers of floral tributes were received, and the funeral arrangements were car ried out by Mr. Donald J. Chipper, of Fremantle and Perth.[2]
